A little about Abhayam

Abhayam is a voluntary Organisation registered under Charitable Socities Act of 1860.

Abhayam is a voluntary organization registered under the Charitable Societies Registration Act of 1860. It was started in 1988 as a project of Social Association for Development, which was formed as an association of various village development committes organised under Rural Development a new approach, Rural Service Volunteer and Planning for Development of Villages, Schemes of Canara Bank and an action research project of National Institute of Bank Management.

Abhayam had it's humble beginning from a small rented building in a very remote village. Now things have changed for better and Now Abhayam have 30 acres of land and buildings donated by the Trustees to host all the inmates and carry out other activities. Abhayam has its campuses in Koppam, Thiravegappura, Vilayur,Muthuthala, Kulukkallur, Malampuzha and Kumarapathur pachayaths.

Abhayam ,the institution born and bought up under the guidance and energy of krishnettan and team is not just a social service organization for the destitutes. It brings in front of you a self sustaiable eco system . Highly balanced ,highly self sufficient . A model every individual should emulate A model our Mahatma would be proud of . There are around 115 people living their life under the wings of Abhayam . It has an eco system complete with an eco cycle developed through well thoughtout plans and its implementations

We were on a rain soaked journey from the morning .. Went to Edappal ,some 40 kms from my home on a motorcycle along with my nephews . We had a good time attending a function at Edappal and on return I had decided on a long pending visit to Abhayam . I had been a what's up member of this group as added by one of my fried Ameen Pasha. He told me to be silent member in the group and make a visit to Abhayam . The rain The good roads.. The fun filled function had made such a high energy filled day for me that on return i decided to visit abhayam ... The Sign board becide the road gives you a good idea of the activities Abhayam are into.. While we reached there, KrIshnettan was sitting in front of the building discussing something with a visitor We waited for our turn .. Malayalam poem were continuesly played for all the inmates to listen ..
What you want .. The question came in such a feeble voice ... Krishnetta,iam a member of the whatsapp group for sometime.just want to have a visit through the activities ... He asked about each one of us and listened carefully ...

An aged men in his sixties came along with .He showed us the quarters of the aged ,mentally disabled ,women ,blind and then we went to the backside of the building .. There were a cowshed .There are some local variety of cows and its calf .There is nobody to extract the milk ,the calf's are allowed to have the entire milk .The cowdung is used as the manure for organic farming . Around 35 acres of land is used for rice farming and 5 acres of land is used for vegetable farming ... The inmates are fed with the vegetables and rice cultivated in abhayams farm through out the year . The entire backside land is so much green , energetic and natural that you will feel the positive energy engulfing the entire area .. There is a yoga practising area provided in the compound for inmates ... There is a full fledged library in the compound ... There is nothing as waste nor any negative energy engulfing the building and its environment . We asked the person accompanying me to tell his story . He was living somewhere in kottayam on a rented house .When he become aged and his wife become blind he had no money and had to leave the rented place ..They came to guruvayur temple as it feeds the poor for free.Somebody met them there and made them to move to Abhayam . Krishnettan took his wife to some doctors and now she has her visibility partially returned ... In return we again met krishnettan. He sit along with us . We were seeing a person of different caliber and energy . A different mission During the entire time of our conversation ,he never raised his voice And it was never monotonous The voice had a mission The voice had its innerstrength of conviction He told me the entire story of building up this institution Krishnettan ,how does you feel now ? Now iam happy ,the institution has become a sort of movement now . But while we started it 30 years back ,it was not so .... Was facing a lot of difficulties .. Now there is a dedicated team with the institution .People who gives their land for farming ,people who built the rooms with their money ..... Krishnettan was an employee with Canara bank in their social service wing . I wanted to do service to the nature and human race on my own ..... So he took VRS and started this organisation in 1988 After a short interaction for some 30 minutes ,we told him that we are now moving He told my nephews to be connected with earth always ..Do some vegetable farming at home . His philosophy being simple You need to be always connected with earth so that it will give you something in return ... We said him good bye And returned Heart filled with such an enlightenment for life Everybody can become part of this ecosystem . You can sponsor the inmates morning breakfast for rupees 3000,lunch for 4000 and dinner for 3000. You can send dresses for the inmates You can bring anybody need a place to live their life of abandoned ... You can become a member of abhayam for an year for a yearly subscription of rupees 100. Krishnettan talks in a very feeble voice ,sometimes you can't hear it also . But once you get connected with this person ,you can hear everything he says ..You can feel the mission he fulfilled with such a positive result.... Such a day today
